EVANGELISTIC TEAM
On Friday nights throughout the school year, evangelistic team leads a group of interested students in sharing their faith on the streets. Many have come to faith in Jesus through their ministry. Many have been challenged and have grown in sharing their faith through evangelistic team. Hundreds of seminary and college students share the gospel or Christ, which results in fruit for God’s kingdom.

COLLEGE AND DIVINITY SCHOOL ACTIVITES
Every year, social, cultural, athletic and spiritual events are scheduled on the adjoining campus of the college, to which our students are invited.

ARTIST SERIES
At Artist series is designed to provide quality concerts and programs and promotes further appreciation of the arts on the campus and in the community. Many of the leading classical and gospel musicians have been guest of this series, which provide three to four programs each season.
MARRIAGE
The rigors of graduate education are demanding upon both a  husband and wife. Students considering marriage should seek counsel from the college and other campus personnel to become more fully aware of the effects marriage may have on one’s academic responsibilities. Students must notify the Record office of any change in marital status so that current records may be maintained. Premarital counseling is available and marriage enrichment seminars are offered. Information is available through the Student Affairs Department.

COUNSELING SERVICE
Each faculty members has responsibilities for academic guidance as well as a measure of spiritual, emotional and social counsel for a group of student advisees. Each new student is assigned to faculty member for assistance in adjusting to campus life and planning a satisfactory program for study. Student enrolled in specific specialization or emphases within their degree programs are assigned to a faculty member of the department in which they will be doing their major study.

A qualified professional counseling staff is available for all students through the counseling center. The office of the Director of programs provides counsel regarding credits, co-curricular eligibility and graduation qualifications. Several administrative personnel, especially the Dean of students are qualified to assist students in meeting the unique need of education in a culture different from their own. The entire student Affairs Department Staff is available to assist student and their families during their years at the school.
BOOKSTORE
The seminary years are those in which a basic theological library and good book buying habit are acquire. To this end, El Theological university make available all the books require and recommended for course work. An extensive selection of other theological work is also maintained. Several times a year special sales are held to encourage students to obtain the best volumes. Though large sums are often spent on books by students, this investment is on which reaps rich benefit in the year after graduation.

HANDBOOKS AND BULLETINS
The students guide is provided for all students upon matriculation, containing useful information on student’s life, as well as campus academic regulations. For students living in the residence halls, a handbook outlines related regulation and procedures. Handbooks with helpful information are also available for apartment residence, international students and for those interested in off-campus employments, financial aids (scholarship) and housing.

A bulletin, news and notes, keep all students informed regarding campus activities, announcements, academic activities and policies. This bulletin is available across from school notice boxes each month of the academic year.

Each student is personally responsible for familiarity with the contents of both the standard guide and the monthly editions of News and notes.

Detailed information related to certain master’s program is contained in the Graduate Studies handbook. Among the more significant matters contained in this publication updated each year are policies and guidelines regarding comprehensive examination and thesis writing. Student in the following degree programs are to be familiar with the content of this document: Master of Arts, master of Arts in Religion, Master of Religious Education, and master of Theology.

PLACEMENT
The school provides placement assistance for students seeking professional position with church and other Christian organizations. Graduating students in the Master of Divinity and Master of Religious Education programs may register with the director of mission for such assistance to students seeking opportunities in ministry. other churches and denominations also make on-campus visits for purpose of securing persons for ministry. Every effort is made to serve all denominations effectively as possible. Each year, numerous churches of all denomination contact the institution requesting assistance in securing personnel for ministry. over the past several years, most student seeking placements assistance from the school for church related ministry opportunities have secured employments within six months of graduation. Single students, women and divorced persons may encounter difficulty in securing position in pastoral ministry.

Students in other degree programs seeking opportunities in such fields as teaching or counseling may also register with the mission office. Since such opportunities may be limited, students are also encouraged to seek assistance from the faculty within their own department of specialization.
OVERSEAS MISSION INSTITUTE
Early in the quarter each year, several days are selected for this institute. Outstanding missionary spokesman are invited to the campus. Chapel messages, lectures, colloquia and seminars focus on the worldwide mission of the church. Representatives of a number of evangelical mission agencies are present to consult with students.

HOME MISSIONS INSTITUTE
Time is likewise set aside during the time for Home missions institute, usually including both a featured speaker and staff members of the ministries department. The Home Missions Institute normally serve as the occasion in which seniors seeking placements are introduced to and interviewed by the District Superintendents of churches in Nigeria.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CONFERENCE
A contemporary issue in local church ministry is usually the theme of this conference. Through workshops, symposia, panel discussions, and lectures, students interact with prominent Christian education specialists as well as with Christian leaders from various ministries and churches in Nigeria and abroad.

INTERCONTINENTAL SCHOOL OF MINISTRY
In response to request from churches and lay persons, ELTHECO has incorporated a new school designated to help and equip Christians for growth and service. Intercontinental school of ministry offers community-wide evening course across Nigeria as well as numerous home study course to help pastors and church leaders become updates in ministry skills, contemporary theological issues, and effective communication methods. ADMISSION AND ACADEMIC REGULATION
Here are the issues relating to admissions and academic matters of the university.

ADMISSIONS
Since El University of Theology exist to educate men and women for worldwide Christian ministry, individuals who are willing to dedicate their lives in obedience to God as desired students. Although occasional exception are made, the vast majority of the student body is composed of men and women who show evidence that they are born to newness of life, yielded to the will of God, endowed with the necessary gifts, and in sympathy with the statement of faith and purpose to which the school is committed. Admission to the school is open to qualified persons of all denominations and fellowships, and any race, colour and national or ethnic origin, without regard to sex or handicap.

The various degree programs of the school are planned specifically for those students who have completed a regular undergraduate program of study and have received a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an approved college or university. Normally this should include at least sixty trimester hours of liberal arts subjects.

Questions regarding the application or admission procedure may be directed to the Admission office.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The following general  procedures relate to applicants for master’s level program or courses. Procedures for applicants to doctoral programs vary according to the requirement of each program, as indicated in the catalog. Ordinarily, students commence studies in September and in such cases should submit completed forms at least three but usually no more than eighteen months in advance of the beginning of the term. Each year there are candidates for the various degree programs as well as special students who are admitted at the beginning of the second and third quarters in January and May. In these cases, completed applications should be submitted at least eight weeks in advance of the intended time of matriculation. In every case, a completed application is required before final action is taken to admit a student to the school. I addition to the application form, the following credentials are required of all Master’s applicants:

  1. A non-refundable application fee.
  2. Officially transcript of all schools attended since high school graduation and sent directly to our school. If the applicant is admitted, a final official transcript indicating that a bachelor’s degree has been granted is required before matriculation.
  3. A recommendation from the applicant’s pastor.
  4. A recommendation from an employer, business or professional acquaintance.
  5. A recommendation from a faculty member or administrator of the school last attended who knows the applicant well enough to evaluate academic ability as well as personal characters.
  6. A statement of the applicant’s Christian experience, vocational objectives and reasons for seeking admission.
  7. A medical information form.
  8. Three recent passport-size photographs.

This is the requirement for all Master of Arts and Master of Theology applicants. Applicant with prerequisite degree from fully-accredited schools and who are applying to the Master of Divinity, Master of Religious Education or Master of Arts in Religion programs may be exempted from this requirement. However, scores will be required from any applicant whose prerequisite  is from a non-accredited school or whose previous academic performance has been weak and/or inconsistent. A final determination of the test score requirement for each individual can be made only after official transcripts are received in the Admission office. Applicants who are uncertain as to whether the GCE will be required would be advised to make plans to take the test as soon as possible. This could prevent inconvenient delays in the application process. Further information on this examination which is administered nationally and in most foreign countries may be obtained through the registrar’s office or testing office of most colleges and universities or by writing directly to the Educational Testing Service and requesting a copy of the Bulletin of information for candidates.

The admission committee of the faculty may grant admission on the basis of these credential alone, or it may request the applicant to submit additional materials and or schedule an interview with a representative of the school. Certain additional credentials are required for admission of some specific degree program of the school as are indicated in this catalog.

When admission is denied by action of the admission committee, the applicant may appeal the decision to the student Development of the faculty with a written request submitted no later than ninety (90) days following receipt of the notification of the admission committee decision.

PART-TIME STUDENT APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Certain part-time school and other students may be admitted as students with the understanding that they carry no more than fifteen (15) hours of credit each quarter. Visiting students are not considered to be currently enrolled in a formal degree program. Those seeking admission on this basis are required to submit the following

    • A completed visiting part-time student application form
    • The non-refundable application fee
    • An official transcript indicating receipt of a bachelor’s degree sent directly to us by the school granting the degree.

    CHANGE OF PROGRAM
    It is understood that students will pursue the degree program to which they were originally admitted. Students who desire to change their program after matriculation must submit a ‘Change of program Application’ to the Admission office. Change of program application may not be filed until after the students have completed at least ten (10) quarter hours of study at El University of Theology acceptance into one program at our school does not guarantee that a student will be admitted into another program.

    When the program becomes effective, the students is subject to the requirements of the catalog which current at the time of matriculation into the program, rather than the catalog which is in effect at the time of original admission. Further information is available from the admission office.

    APPLICATION FOR RE-ADMISSION
    Students who have officially or unofficially withdrawn from the school and who desire to return for studies will need to apply for re-admission through the admission office. Students who are re-admitted will be subject to the catalog requirement in effect at the same of re-admission rather than those of the catalog which had been current during their previous studies. Individuals who have been officially or unofficially withdrawn for two years or longer will normally be required to submit a full regular application with supporting credentials such as references, etc. former students who have been away for less than two years will need to submit a one page “Supplementary Application” as well as any additional materials requested by the Admission Office.

    PRE-SEMINARY STUDIES
    Students entering college or university with the intent of preparing for seminary are urged to design baccalaureate programs along the guideline which follow. However, the faculty of the Divinity  School also recognizes the many men and women now entering seminary to do so on the basis of decision made late in the undergraduate program or after receiving the undergraduate degree. The admission committee willingly process applications from prospective students who have pursued programs (e.g. training in History or music) which do not readily correspond to the following guideline. In evaluating such applicants, the committee seeks a healthy combination of total hours in the liberal art and respectable scores on the Graduate Record Examination General Test when required. Where this combination is not present, the prospective students may be admitted with liberal arts deficiencies which must be removed by further undergraduate studies before the students begins a second full year at El Theological University.

    GUIDELINES FOR PRE-SEMINARY STUDIES

    1. Our school faculty believes that the breath of one’s previous study will enable the individual to be more effective in his or her ability to relate and minister to people in all walks of life and in all parts of the world. El Theological University encourages students to pursue undergraduate background in the arts. The basic requirement for admission to our graduate school is the possession of a bachelor’s  or its equivalent from an approved college or university. Normally this should include at least sixty trimester hours of liberal arts subjects.
    2. Students should give evidence in the pre-seminary studies that they have developed the ability to think independently to communicate effectively and to excel or demonstrate satisfactorily that this deficiency has been remedied.
    3. Students should possess in their pre-seminary studies a basic general knowledge of past and present culture through studies in the humanities and the natural and social sciences.
    4. Students are encouraged to become familiar with content of the Bible either through formal course work or through personal study. Students are not discourage from pursuing course work in the biblical and or theological areas since such study can be appropriate within the framework of a liberal arts education. The Divinity School allows consideration flexibility in program modification for students whose undergraduate course clearly parallel prescribed course in the curriculum. This enables the student to build on, rather than repeat areas of previous study. Our concern is that students have a broad enough base in their liberal arts education so as to avoid a narrowness which hinders theological reflection and to encourage true integrative learning.

    WOMEN STUDENTS
    We welcome women students whose applications are considered for any program offered by our school. Currently, approximately fourteen percent (14%) of the resident student body is composed of women. Housing and board are available on campus for single women students.

    TRANSFER STUDENTS
    Credit for students taken at other graduate level institution of recognized standing may be received in transfer when such work parallels courses listed in our schools catalog, and after the successful completion of a full quarter or satisfactory academic work at ELTHECO official transcripts indicating satisfactory grades are required for courses to be considered. In order to qualify for a degree however, students must satisfy residence requirements which include at least thirty-six (36) quarter h ours of course work in the degree program at ELTHECO spread over a minimum of three academic quarter. It should not be assumed that the credit is cared for automatically; it is handled only when requested by the student. Final decisions on all matter involving transfer of credit rest with the Director of programs El Theological University.

    No transfer of credit is given for undergraduate studies completed in college or other institution below the seminary or graduate school level. However, where undergraduate courses clearly parallel prescribe courses in the student’s theological school curriculum, the student may request a program modification in one or both of two ways: In the Master of Divinity program, eligible students who have taken such courses beyond the normal bachelor’s degree requirements may be allowed to receive limited advanced standing toward the M. Div. degree.

    COMBINED MASTERS DEGREES
    Information is available in the admission office for students who wish to consider pursuing both the Master of Divinity and the Master of Arts degree at El Theological University. Students who do this must be qualified for both programs and residency requirement of each program and must complete a total of at least 136 quarter hours of course work.     ACADEMIC LOAD
    To be considered as a full time master’s level students you must enroll for at least twenty (20) quarter. Those enrolled for 1 – 19 hours are classified as part-time students.

    No student may register for more than twenty four (24) hours in a quarter without approval in advance by the director of programs. If a student does not enroll for any courses during a quarter, he or she is considered to have withdrawn from our college. In order to register for courses subsequently, the former student must apply for readmission through the admission office.

    The minimum full time load for doctoral students varies according to the program. Doctor of Education students need to carry at least twenty (20) hours each quarter to be considered full time though normally the full time student will take twenty (20) hours. Doctor of philosophy students will enroll  in three (3) doctoral courses per quarter to be considered full time. Since the Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Missiology programs are not typically residential, students who enroll in one of these programs and who need to be considered as full time or half time should contact the professional doctorate office for specific guidelines established by our school. Doctoral students who desire to carry overloads must have their plans approved in advanced by the respective program director.

    CLASS AND CHAPEL ATTENDANCE
    The development of good habits confirming character and a sense of Christian stewardship implies that each student is responsible to attend class lectures, participate in class discussion and complete course requirement.

    Class attendance is expected and arrangement for absence from class due to illness or other emergencies should be made directly with the instructor. Chapel services are regarded as the spiritual life of the university and students are expected to attend all such services without failures.

    Final examinations are held during examination week in every regularly scheduled. These require mastery of subject matter but the method and manner in which such mastery is demonstrated  is left to the discretion of each faculty member. Where however, skills or the gaining of experience constitute the main substance of the course (as in many Homiletics courses or various types of internships), evaluation procedures other than a final examination time may be granted by the student Affairs Office.

    Extensions for completion of course requirement may be requested of the Dean of students in case of illness or other unforeseeable circumstances. It is only that office which is authorized to grant such extensions. When extensions are approved, the duration will be appropriate tot eh situation, but the maximum extension considered will not exceed a four-week period from the end of the term except in case of severe emergency. Course extensions granted will carry one of the two recommendations as appropriate to the circumstances: there will be either

    1. No grade penalty (provided the extension deadline is met) or
    2. A grade reduction of one full grade for each week the extension is effective. When courses are not completed by the assigned deadline, a grade of F is permanently recorded. Other details found in the current student Guide of El Theological College and El Theological University.

    ACADEMIC PROBATION AND DISMISSAL
    An applicant may be admitted to the Theological school on academic probation for either of the following reasons

    1. Weak academic background as reflected in the undergraduate grade average and or graduate record examination scores or
    2. A baccalaureate degree from a non accredited institution accompanied by marginal graduate record examination scores. In such case, the probationary status may be removed after two or three quarters of successful academic performance at our Divinity school.

    A student is placed on academic probation at the conclusion of any quarter in which his or her cumulative grade point average falls below that which is required for the degree program. The student remains on probation as long as the cumulative average remains below the required level. An academic warning may be given at the conclusion of any quarter in which the student fails to earn the minimum grade point average required for the program of study, even though the cumulative average may be acceptable. The minimum grade point average for the specific degree programs, and for special students is as follows:

    Students who fail to raise their cumulative grade point average to the required level by the end of two quarters on probation or who fail to make a substantial improvement in grade point average though remaining on probation will be academically dismissed from the school.

    After academic dismissal from the Divinity school, the admission committee will consider applications for re-admission only if warranted by exceptional circumstances. Such applications are considered on a case by case basis seeking reasonable grounds to expect that the former student could make satisfactory progress toward removal of his or her probationary status. After dismissal, a time period of no less than eight weeks must transpire before an application for re-admission may be considered. Any student on academic probation will be restricted from participation in co-curricular activities and will be required to review employment and other commitments with their academic advisor.

    CHANGES IN REGISTRATION
    All changes in registration (dropping and adding of courses) and other adjustments of academic schedule must be made officially in the record office. Changes made during the first week of a quarter are free; after the first week of class a change-in-registration fee is charged. Courses may not be added after the second week of classes. Grade accountability of courses dropped after the second week of classes is as follows: courses dropped at any time during the third through fifth weeks of classes must be recorded with a graded with a grade of “WP” or “WF”. An “Audit” option is available to those students who qualify for a passing withdrawer (WP) but desire to remain in the course on an adult basis for the duration of the quarter. Courses  dropped after the fifth week are automatically recorded as F, which can be commuted to WP or WF, if circumstance warrant by action of the Academic Appeals Committee of the faculty.

    WITHDRAWALS
    OFFICIAL WITHDRAWALS

    Students who for any reason consider withdrawing from the school or who do not plan to register for classes the following quarter must schedule an appointment with a staff member in the Student Affairs Office, at which time the formal withdrawal process is to be initiated. The withdrawal is not complete until final settlements have been made. Grade accountability for students who withdraw from school after the start of a quarter is the same as for students who drop as a class.

    UNOFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL
    While it is expected that all students who withdraw will do so unofficially students who do not register for courses during a given quarter will be considered to have withdrawn unofficially. Each trimester in our university calls for a fresh registration.

    TRANSCRIPTS
    One transcript of credits will be given with a little charge upon the presentation of a written Transcript Request to the Record Office. Additional copies of transcripts bearing the seal of the school may be requested in writing for a reasonable fee. Such transcript will be forwarded by mail to appropriate institution but are not issued directly to students. Transcripts will not be issued for students who have outstanding accounts to clear.

    GRADUATE SCHOOL IN EL UNIVERSITY OF THEOLOGY AND SEMINARY

    Graduate school in our university is quite different from post graduate school. In our definition, the two have different business in our Christian university. Our definition below show the differences between the post graduate and the graduate school in our Theological Institutions.

    This definition may be very peculiar to us alone.

    1. POST GRADUATE SCHOOL

    Our post graduate school is the department or a school in our university that admit student who have obtained their bachelor degree either in Theology, Missiology, Christian Ministry, Christian education, Christian Religion, Christian worship, Ministerial Arts, Religion and or in other related courses.

    1. GRADUATE SCHOOL

    Our graduate school is the department or a special school that can admit students who have obtained their bachelor degree in Education, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Religion, courses, humanities and social sciences. It is a school of Divinity where theology, missiology, ministries, Divinities  and Religions are studies on master’s and doctoral levels only. It has no undergraduate level but only specified for masters and doctorate levels only.

    1. DIFFERENCES

    Our post graduate school is purely on the Christian theology and the gospel platform. It is the continuation of the gospel propagation of the Bible college, while the graduate school is the combination of the sacred with the secular and the combination of the spiritual with social in order to propagate the gospel in highest standard. Nevertheless, all are aimed at the world harvest and they aim at bringing the gospel to the world.

    1. THE UNDERGRADUATE SCHOOL

    The undergraduate school in our university is the school that takes care of the diploma and bachelor degree students and prepares them for the disciples of their choice. Our undergraduate school is a four year program from 100 level to 400 level.

    PRESENT EMPHASIS
    Our present emphasis in this write up is the graduate school which is a higher department in our university. Majority of the issues to discuss in this write up shall major on the conditions, issues or matters relating to our graduate school.

    ACADEMIC INFORMATION ON THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF EL THEOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY
    El Theological university is the upgraded institution of El Theological college. The two institution run the same courses with the same purpose and focus. Both institutions were the brain vision of Rev Prof Emma Ononuju and his wife. El Theological college runs and own a post graduate school, but the El Theological university in another hand runs an downs the same but added a full department or chapter known as GRADUATE SCHOOL that does not admit undergraduates but focuses in admitting graduates from different institutions with their first degrees or post graduate diplomas. Our focus here is the graduate school.

    Nevertheless, both El Theological college and El Theological university admit students for certificate, diploma and degree courses as follows:
    Certificate courses                -           1 year
    Diploma courses                   -           2 years
    Bachelor degree courses     -           4 years

    Graduate school in our university is considered as a peculiar and definite program of higher calling. This may be very different from what it is in other institutions. It is a school in our school.

    DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR POST GRADUATE SCHOOL AND OUR GRADUATE SCHOOL
    The difference between the post graduate school of El Theological university and the graduate school of El Theological university is that El Theological university post graduate school admits only students with transcripts relating to theology, missions, ministries, Biblical studies and such related courses, but the graduate school can admit students with transcripts from philosophy, History, languages and other courses in humanities including all mentioned above.

    STATEMENT OF PURPOSE – THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
    El Theological college is a graduate professional school designed to equip men and women for service in the church of Jesus Christ. To that end the seminary intends that its graduates will be knowledgeable concerning the holy scriptures and the theological tradition of the church, the polity and educational programs of their denominations and the liturgical heritage of the church. It seeks to equip students with skill in preaching the gospel and in the exercise of pastoral gifts.

    DEGREES
    El Theological college, the El Theological university grants the master of Arts in Religion, the master of Divinity and the Doctor of Ministry degrees. (Please see our post graduate programs)

    The Master of Arts in Religion degree is a two-year program of instruction and experience in theology designed for lay theologians and those whose Christian vocations do not require ordination. One year of advanced standing may be granted to students holding a Master’s degree in theology or divinity, making it possible to complete the program in one year. The master of Divinity degree is a first graduate professional degree that satisfies the educational requirements of most denominations for ordination. The Doctor of ministry degree is designed to be the result of a coherent and focused program of study for the purpose of markedly increasing one’s competence in ministry. historically this has been a program of the schools of Theology, but is now offered by El Theological university.

    ADMISSION PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS
    El Theological university is a graduate professional school. This presupposes that all students applying for  admission to master’s degree programs have been graduated from regionally accredited colleges or universities and have attained a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. It is recommended that the candidate’s undergraduate preparation include a strong background in the humanities, including courses in English, Philosophy, Religion, Literature, History and foreign languages as well as some work in the social science disciplines of psychology and sociology. Applicants for degree programs must provide:

    1.  A completed application form that includes a four to seven page statement reflecting the student’s faith development and view of the ministry, and the three letters of recommendation.

     

    1.  An official transcript from each college, university or seminary attended or certificates already acquired.
    2. A recent photograph (optional)
    1. Application fee

    All applications for degree programs are reviewed by the admissions committee without prejudicial regard to race, ethnic origin, sex, marital status or age. Decisions are made on a “rolling admissions” basis, with applications reviewed as soon as all sections of the application are received. The admission committee, at its discretion may request an interview with a  candidate before making a decision on admission. The committee may require a letter from the appropriate denominational body having responsibility for the applicant’s preparation for ministry. the committee may admit a candidate conditionally based upon the candidate’s denominational care process or additional undergraduate courses taken to supplement the candidate’s pre-seminary preparation in El Theological university.

    A campus visit and interview not ordinarily required for admission are strongly recommended. Candidates for admission may make arrangements for such a visit through the admission office.

    Early application for admission is strongly encouraged. Priority in the assignment of student housing and in financial aid grants will be given on the basis of early application and admission. (see students handbook). Students will be asked to confirm their admission with N13,000.

    TRANSFER OF CREDIT
    Transfer credit is granted for works done at other theological seminaries and reduces the requirements of degree program. Such work is listed on the student’s transcript by title, semester credits transferred and grade. Work for which a degree has not been granted will be factored according to the proportion of work done, regardless of the credit system used e.g. one full year of a master of Divinity program at a seminary will transfer to us as one full year or one third of the M. Div. program.

    Ordinarily, no more than one half of the credits required for a degree can be transferred to El Theological university. In exceptional circumstances transfer credit may be granted for graduate courses completed at an unknown seminary or in another field of graduate study.

    ADVANCED STANDING
    Advanced standing may be granted for courses designated under ara mastery in the core curriculum. Such advanced standing does not reduce the number of credits required for a degree program. Subject to the approval of the dean, the director of admissions and the registrar may grant such advanced standing to an applicant for admission upon analysis of a transcript. After admission, a student may request the appropriate division of the course to grant advanced standing by completing a form to be filled with the registrar and noted on the student’s graduation check sheet, in this case the appropriate teacher shall be judge of that portion of area mastery to which the course applies.

    PROFICIENCY
    Proficiency is an option available to students who independently of academic course structures believe they have mastered a body of material or skills corresponding to a seminary course. Such students may request the lecturer teaching eh course to evaluate their mastery and if it proves satisfactory grant them credit of the course.

    To receive proficiency credit, a student must register for the course in the regular manner but may do so at any time mutually convenient for student and the teacher.

    Registration for a course whose requirements shall be met by demonstrated proficiency will not be counted as a part of the regular student load. The lecturer will evaluate the student’s mastery of materials or skills in whatever way and to whatever extent guarantees that the requesting student’s proficiency is the equivalent of that expected of other students regularly taking similar courses. The receiving of proficiency credit shall be counted as fulfilling a course requirement thus counting toward the total number of hours required for El Theological university degree.

    RESIDENCY
    It is expected that each degree complete 50% of the degree requirements at El Theological university. Upon request the professional studies committee may lower this requirement but in no case shall a student complete or pay fewer than 60 credit hours for a particular degree. Two consecutive trimester of residency with full time status are required. Full time status is defined as 18 credit hours per trimester.

    Participation in the community of theological scholarship in the institution which grants the degree is an indispensable component of theological education. Therefore, in no case shall the total of transfer and proficiency credit exceed one half of the requirement of a degree.

    TIME ALLOWANCE FOR A DEGREE PROGRAM
    A degree program must be completed within six years after matriculation. Any exceptions to this limit must be granted upon special petition to the professional studies committee.

    In accordance with the transfer policy a student with a two year M.A.R or equivalent degree in theological studies may be granted transfer credit and one year of advance standing in the M. Div. Program. In no case shall a student be able to earn the M. Div and the M.A.R degree in less than a total of six academic year.
